Re: Gun control in Australia c&p

One of the worst pictures I've ever seen was the Aussie officials using a chop saw to cut in half a beautiful browning auto-5 shotgun. Sickening.

Yeah, that would be an awful sight. That said, I have few ol' Winchester beauties that I inherited from my Dad that I might post for some info/feedback on. I think this forum has some knowledgeable guys w.r.t that kind of thing.

As for the Canadian/U.S thing. It should be a great point of pride for both Canadians and Americans that we have shared the longest undefended border in the world for the greatest period of time. In almost perfect and complete peace. There is no better international example of two countries getting along than us.
Needless to say we have some differences like most neighbours (trade, gun culture, whatever)....but for the better part, as neighbours...we indeed rule.
Note: the 'undefended' border part is somewhat under construction and revision at the mount...but that too will work out.

agreed! by the way, if you have any old winchester model 12's post a pic. They are one of my favorites and i have 2 of them. One, technically, because my dad won't turn loose of my granddad's restored model 12 16 gauge. Makes me nearly drool to see it.

..Plainsman, to be honest I know of the movie...but I can't recall it. That said if John Candy was in it, it probably had a few classic comic moments.

...as for the 'Winnies'...only 1 is an SG the others mostly are pre 1910 Hex barrel levers. Unrestored (unfortunately? fortunately?). Actually they are a couple of old round barrels in there too....still oldies tho'.

Hey bp1, unrestored is preferred.....for example a model 1894 rifle in 30-30, 1894-1929 manufacture dates, perhaps has a value of $1675 given 95% condition per 2004 Blue Book of gun values. There are many variables that are considered (octagon/round bbl., deluxe model, manufacture date, etc.).

http://www.gunbroker.com/ is a great site to look for firearms like yours to get a feel for their value.

And, of course, I being a C&R FFL03 license holder, and considering "old iron" like yours is classified as curio & relics, would be happy to offer, say, a $100 for the lot. I'll even pay shipping and insurance. :D Just kidding, folks who make offers like that are known as "widow skinners", seeking wives of the recently departed and offering to "relieve" them of their husbands "old guns".

...pjc, "widow skinners"...great term!!
Just speaking quickly from memory here I think one of them is a model 1894 and/or several state model 18...ninety something or other in there. One of them (my favourite) still have its saddle ring on the side and is chambered 44-40 I think.
I think 3-4 of them are Hex barrels. However I'm going to have to go have another look at them. Love 'em tho'....absolutely sweet lookin' pieces of machinery....albeit in dire need of some clean-up I think.

How did a cross cultural grass roots God fearing discussion on the pros and cons of political firearm control turn into a 'how to' winchester maintenance thread? :D

Quite right Dunaruna and thus I digress....I'll swing this into a different thread at some point.
OMR's firearms rights from 'the Creator' angle still has me scratching my head.
I was certain God/Creator/Etc was fully left out of the U.S constitution has it related to law and governance. Again, this being the point in separating church and state so religious zealots can not pass legislation because of their associated beliefs.
I have to review that document I guess.
