Re: Gustav

Benny, I got your number - might want to take it down now since the whole of the internet can see it. Thanks for the offer. I should be OK - this property has never flooded in any of the hurricanes since before the sixities. In fact, a few people tell me that is has never flooded in anyone's (including great grandfathers, etc.) memory at all.

That said - I am pretty much ready. I'm probably going to wait until tomorrow night to go because there are a number of reasons to believe that this storm is not the one to watch for folks in my area. That could. of course, change and I will not hesitate to take off when/if the the time comes. In fact, I just finished replacing a tire (other one was recently replaced) and repacking the bearings on my boat trailer.

Now its time to put a roast in the rotisserie and go cut some grass!

Re: Gustav

When hugo hit charlotte back in 1989 the wind was blowing to the right as I looked out the front windows. A heavy lead cap that had been attached to the top of a chimey I no longer used ended up laying about 20 feet to the left. Evindently the toranado that moved it stoped only about 4 feet short of getting the roof. I didnt lose a single shingle.

Re: Gustav

Well, life has changed for us in SE Louisiana. Gustav decided to be a bit of a jerk and took a little jog to the east, which puts the predicted track closer to New Orleans. It has also become huge, which is something that the forecasters said it wouldn't. To put it in perspective, Katrina was about 400 miles wide - this one is now 900 miles wide. There are actually feeder bands over the Mississippi Gulf Coast right now, even though the storm is still in Cuba.

So, I'll be signing off sometime tonight for a bit. I may get back on via my laptop in a hotel some where. To all my friends in the Gulf South ..... anyone up for starting a commune in Kansas? Do they have Redfish there?

We are directly in the path. They are saying it will make landfall and the eye will pass over our house, literally, Monday evening as a Cat 2. Yikes. We're boarded up and staying. The highways are just parking lots. I'm not riding out a hurricane in a car.

I've put the offer out to others before and I'll do it again. I live 3 hours straight up I-45 if anybody down south needs a place to park it. I ain't got a whole lot but its yours if ya need a place to stay. Let me know on here by a thread with my name on it and pm me a number to reach you. All of my wifes family is in Houston and will never leave, burns me up to no end I get so mad at their stubborness.

Re: Gustav

I hear you K.B. My little man and his momma left with her Uncle to Georgia about six hours ago & the only reason I am still here is because her neighbor is in her 80s and is refusing to leave. She has no living relatives and no one else seems to have stepped up to get her to go. I called her a couple of hours ago and told her I would be by in the morning to get her - whether she wants to go or not! LOL ... I told her that she is going to drown if she doesn't go!

No one knows how bad things may get but if any of the Iboat crowd becomes in need of a place to excape we have an extra room now that the son has gone back to school. Charlotte had hundreds of Katrina refugees and it may happin again.
