Sweet project! I'm right in the middle of restoring my 78 FM160. The console had already been ripped out of mine when I got it. The poor beast didn't look like it had a day of indoor storage in it's life. It's going back together now after rivet R&R, leak testing and epoxy sealing. I'm going to have to keep this one for a while!

I've been looking at that. Nice find and a beautiful restoration. I'm not sure if mine had the rear deck origninally, but it will have one when I'm done. The Sea Nymph has really nice lines and a good layout for fishing or as a pleasure craft. I bought mine last spring and used it every weekend until the weather got cold. Now I just need to finish it.

Nice job. I hope to make it look as good as yours.

Jagger,

I almost made mine a center console. However, I bought/restored it to sell and the market here is bass type boats.

As you see (in yours) there is a nice little rigging tunnel running right down the center, under the floor.:) Just something to consider.;)

Thanks for the comments. Let me know if I can be of any help.

Re: Gutted my '86 Sea Nymph SS195

OMG!!! I have this same boat and am at the very beginning of the same project! Thank you so much for posting the photo's! I look forward to seeing your progress.

My first specific question: I see your boat has two thru-hull fittings where the bilge pump is. How is the second hose run and did you do that or did it come that way? Do you have access to the original bilge hose?

On mine, I'm seriously thinking of upgrading the bilge hoses to 1 1/8 and was going to make an access hole to perform the original hose replacement. (Of course, new fittings will be installed also) I think the original fittings are only 1/2".

My next question is: How were the consoles and front platforms connected to the deck and hull and how did you remove these?

Next, how are you planning to restore the wood on the stern gunwales? It seems a bit weathered (as mine is) and I'm curious to know your plan for it. On mine, I'm thinking of sanding and then treating with Cetol marine.

Finally, does your hull leak at all and if so, how are you fixing this? I've been replacing rivets in mine and plan to gluvit the hull when I replace the deck.

Again, I'm so excited to see this thread!!!!! I hope you enjoy your project!

Re: Gutted my '86 Sea Nymph SS195

Here's a couple of pics with the plywood out. What a nut buster that was, all rivets had to be drilled out, wood was very wet, smelly, and rotted. All cavities were filled with Great Stuff spray foam for extra flotation. I'll leave all that. Hull liner removed also.

Deerhunter:

No hull leaks. I only have use of one bilge outlet, other is buried. All rivets were drilled out to remove consoles and bow seat platform. No idea on the sterm wood yet...maybe paint.

If that foam isn't soaked you'll be wise to leave it like you said. If you end up replacing it, don't use great stuff. It's not approved for flotation. You'll want to use a 2 part urethane foam. Many places that sell fiberglass supplies will also carry it.

Nice hammer btw.:) It looks familliar!

Re: Gutted my '86 Sea Nymph SS195

Thanks for the details. Regarding foam: I just received my order of pour foam from http://uscomposites.com/foam.html. I haven't used it yet, but I'm replacing foam I took out when I ran a new bilge hose. I did a bunch of reading on this site and that is the product I chose after the research.

Also, I'll add before/after photo's of my gunwale wood and how the Cetol Marine turns out, so you can evaluate using something similar for your project.

I'm jealous that your hull is watertight!! Just kidding.

By the way, I'm laughing because I had the same exact vacuum in my boat this weekend!!

Thank you for your updates. I hope my project can help you also, somehow.

Re: Gutted my '86 Sea Nymph SS195

For the last week or two I've been slopping thinned epoxy and thick epoxy on all the floor boards. Hopefully this weekend, I can get them all installed. I have the aluminum rivets that will hold the floor in. Just have do alot of drillin'. I will probably fill every hole with that 3m marine goop. You gotta keep water out of your fastener holes.

I'm still undecided on how I want to mount my seats. Driver will be on a pedastal. I think I want port side to be on an oversized storage box, which means I would have to build something. Then I have two more seats for the kids...not sure on them yet. I'll add some pics after the weekend.

Re: Gutted my '86 Sea Nymph SS195

Hers some pics with the new plywood in place. The piece over the gas tank will be screwed down not riveted. I think I will buy a hatch door for the one small piece for anchor storage below deck, I think there's room.

This wood sealer stuff worked really nice. I used the No Blush Epoxy from Epoxyproducts.com. It's a 2:1 mix...I thinned out the first two coats with acetone, then a nice thick coat. I highly recommend this product. Great pricing compared to others, and good customer service. Horrible website though. I'll use this stuff again to do the dash board plywood, and the storage shelves.

Next step, rough it up a little and paint with Lowe's No Skid light gray paint. Never used this stuff before, but I've heard good things. My goal now is to have this in the water by Labor Day weekend...Gotta get movin'...

I'm really unsure what I want to do about exterior paint. I wonder if I wet sand the whole thing, if I could just use a gallon of that Rust Oleum Oil Based Paint? Then maybe just throw some of my own sticker decals on...any ideas?

What kind of rivets did you use? (size, material and grip range). How did they work out for you? Please post the part number.

I used 3/16" aluminum rivets. They have a grip range of 1/2" to 5/8". I got tricked into buying a box of 500, so if anybody wants to buy some, I'd be happy to to sell them at the price I paid. So far no problems. I drilled every one and put marine adhesive in every hole then fastened them with a big rivet tool. Smaller hand tool for tight spots. I figured I didn't need a ton of them, so I think they are spaced about 1 ft apart. More pics to come soon...I'm beginning to wrap up this years work...stay tuned.
