There are alot of experts on here, and I am seeking their advice. I don't know a lot about boats but I know some.
OK here is all I know. The guy that has the boat doesn't know hardly anything about it either, and is not very mechanical. But...
Its a tri-hull, looks to me to be about an early 70's, maybe about 18'. Dont know what brand cause the plate that looks like it would have the brand/model on it is missing.
The front open bow has about 2" of water standing in it. The boat hasn't been covered in what looks like a few years cause the vinyl seats are cracked and are showing alot of weather, and there are some small trees growing in between the seat cushions.
Motor-wise, its a 4 cylinder inboard/outboard. I couldnt tell the make, but I know its a 4 cylinder cause of the 4 new orange spark plug wires on it (he didn't know the make or HP either). There are 2 carbs that are not currently attached to the motor because the guy was going to put kits in it, and never got around to it. He has them in his garage. The carbs have probably been off for a couple years at least. The motor compartment is and has been covered with the exception of about an inch gap between the motor cover and transom which is open because of something in the way keeping it from closing all the way (looks like a light pole or something). The motor has some dusty dried oil on the bellhousing(?) at the back of it where it connects to the outdrive.
The Outdrive is white with the paint flaking, has "OMC" stamped on top of it,and a number underneath that, which I cannot tell what it is because it is scratched up, but looks sorta like "115".
The prop and outdrive visually look ok to me, no signs of rust or any visible damage from freezing or dragging on the ground, just some flaking paint.
The bottom drain hole on the boat didn't have the plug in it so I stuck my finger in there, dug out some leaves and crap and some water started coming out, not much, just a little stream. But that tells me theres water in the bottom of the boat for I dont know how long.
The last licensing sticker was from 2003, the guy that has it has never had it out. Although he said be bought it from a guy his wife worked with and they used it to pull skiers. I do not know how long current owner has had it.
The trailer looks ok to me.
Now the questions for the forum members:
What more should I be looking for?
The guy is asking $800 and will probably go down some from there.
As far as my knowledge, I am pretty good with carpentry tools and mechanical tools, do alot of my own mechanical work, etc. Ive never done upholstery but I could learn or have someone do it. And Im not scared to work on it.
What do you think? Should I ask more questions? Should I walk away?
Looking forward to all opinions on this!
