I have recently become the owner of a 1973 MFG Gypsy 15. As seen below, it is in need of a paint job and I am trying to figure out a good scheme to use. From what I can tell from what little research I could do, there were two factory designs. The first was just a solid color, top to bottom, inside and out. That is the original design mine was. Plum (bleech!) The other design I have found is the bottom is white and above the rubber (rub?) rail and inside is a different color. Can anyone offer any ideas on some other design that would be nice?

Thanks

Hi Lonepiper ! Welcome aboard ! Great looking Gypsy you have ! I'd guess you could look at any tri-hull and get creative with your own design , realy wouldn't matter . Plumb Eh?? Bet if it was painted along time that the orriginal gel coat would shine up great:rolleyes: Do you have a plan for the type of "Look" you want ? Ie ; Ski / Tube boat - fishing boat - flat black pirate ship ???:D peter

Yea, Plum.

Funny thing, and really strange. I took some of the hardware off and underneath every piece, the original color is there. It's like someone spray painted the entire boat except for the hardware. Even stuff that had holes in it. The visible deck was white(ish) but under the hardware, plum. Go figure. Nasty color though.

I am curious though, and I hope someone can help. The bottom of the boat is a very dark color, almost black but not quite I thought this was some sort of stain from sitting in the water, but it is only on the very bottom. Is this some sort of applied coating that perhaps (hopefully) I should leave alone? If need be I can post a couple of pic.

Thanks.

(Plum, sheesh)

Forgot to mention, someone in the past had hand brushed all the cushions bright red. Along with three pieces of wood that were attached for I guess decoration.

Yea, haha that's my boat! Notice the cushions, mine have been brush painted bright red. What's left of them cause they are in pretty bad shape at the moment.
