H.I.N. location?

Hi Folks,
I just got a Crestliner 1600 Super Hawk, circa 2000. I've read that the HIN is usually located on the starboard side, near, or on the transom. I don't see anything, or any place where something was attached at one time.
Is this a metal plate? A decal?
Thanks.

All of the boats I've had the HIN is on the upper port side of the outer transom.

On your alum boat it most likely is stamped in, not a plate.

You may also find it marked into the capacity plate if you know where that is.

Re: H.I.N. location?

Have seen some on a tag that was riveted on, or screwed on. Some were stamped into aluminum. Some were stamped into fiberglass. All have been on the upper starboard corner of the transom. Had one boat that also had it stamped into the BIA plate next to the USCG capacity plate.

Many boats also have a secondary hin somewhere inside the boat, in the bilge, under the gunnel, under the helm, etc.

on the upper starboard corner of the transom.
i think that's the norm. though i did see a pontoon boat at the boat show 2 years ago that had the hin on the starboard side, on the side at the very back. by the transom, but on the side.
my old boat has the hin stamped into the glass dead ctr. on the transom, just above the drive. so there are exceptions to upper starboard side on the transom.

If it is stamped into the Aluminum don't expect it to be large or obvious.
Even in fiberglass you have to look closely to see them.

First off...a big thanks to all of you for taking the time to reply! It sure helped knowing the number wasn't obvious, and could be stamped.
In other words, I found the dang thing!

It was stamped into the hull. On the outer side of the transom, right up under the rub rail. Yes, the starboard side. Kind of in plain view once you find it!
