Another frightening thought when our government overrules the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Not sure I am ready for this to happen.

Please use common sense.

Times of war call for harsh measures.

When the war is over and the US gov is still using the same methods, then you can get upset.

Maybe you trust the powers that be right now, maybe you don't. Do you trust the ones in power 10-20 years from now? It's a lot harder to undo something that's already been done.

i386, I am with you, I do not believe in giving any government my rights and I am opposed to this issue without question.

I do not trust this administration and I doubt I will trust one in 20 years. The Constitution was written to protect the people from the government.

What war?

Nothing I have read or heard ANYWHERE says anything about a declaration of war as provided for in the US Constitution.

Are you talking about the premeditated aggression against Iraq that is currently going so well?

Are you talking about the completely mismanaged and ineffective "Department of Homeland Security" activities that are supposed to protect us from "terrorists"?

Are you talking about the nebulous "war on terror" that ShrubCo claims to be waging? If you are referrring to this, how will we, the people, know when we have "won"?

Are you talking about the well managed and extremely successful "war on drugs"?

It is easier to spout the party line than think for yourself. You would have been a good german in the thirties and early forties. No questioning the government, do as you are told. People like you are sad examples of everything that is wrong with the USA.

As a proper mindless citizen that is an example of "what is wrong with America today", I cant repond until I can talk to Rush and ask him how I should respond.

Funpilot your post proves you know very little about me. No further response required.

In case you guys dont remember, many liberties have been sacrificed in the USA during times of war.

Ask the Japanese living here in the 40s.

we dont need no haybuss corpuss.

if your arrested or detained you must be guilty.

if your chased and shot you must have been guilty of something.
just think how streamlined this administration has made the US Judicial system.

Re: Habeus Corpus

If I were of the paranoid type, I'd be worried that we are setting the groundwork for a military coup in this country.

To the setting up of the Pres with ultimate authority to decide who is an "enemy combatant" he can imprison with no recourse, To the cries from the right of how devastating the consequences will be of a Dem victory, and how they are tantamount to supporters of treason, to the concentration of this current administration to military audiences for their speeches.

It is clear to me they are advocating a one party system, and that ,my friends, would be the result of a successful military coup. Also in historical terms referred to as a totalitarian dictatorship.

That is, of course, if I were of the paranoid persuasion.

That might make sense if there was any standard in place for knowing when the war will be "over". When terrorists don't exist? You might as well say "forever"...

That has been one of my main beefs from day one about the way this administration defined this conflict. The war is an excuse for almost any kind of abuse of power or corruption of the constitution and the war can never be over because of the way they have defined it. Cheney has said that this war will go on "for generations".

So yes, let's use some common sense and stop undoing things that may not be put back together in our lifetimes.

are you a traitor? how dare you question the current administration. they have a message from god or did you not know that ?

if the jack boots kick in your door your guilty or they would not have kicked it in.
if they shoot you in the process then they saved the taxpayers money.

if they need a confession at the station waterboarding is approved.

Re: Habeas Corpus

Not one American citizen's rights has been affected, this only applies to foreign enemy combatants. So, how is this a Constitutional issue? Also, I am pretty sure that a majority of our fairly elected Representatives approved this, some of them Democrats, before it was sent for signature, just like our Constitution requires.

PW2, you're paranoid for thinking about it . . .

PW2 has an agenda, not paranoid, just an agenda... of course if he has to defend his position, he cuts and runs... Rush is still awaiting him.

I suppose Ben was dealing with a bunch of terrorists an an enemy that cares nothing about their own lives but only their sick agenda of anti-americanism. He was a great man no doubt, but lets face it, this situation wasnt even fathamable during his day.

It's like beating a dead horse with some people. If you have time to post this, tak the time to look up the answer. It'd been posted sooooooooo many times before. Good grief..
