spare key now in garage!!! Opener in my truck! fixed the door frame, will need a bit of wood putty and the safety glass should be an easy and cheap fix

That kind of happened in this area ... a drunk was trying to wake his girlfriend to let him in, unfortunately it was the neighbors house. Neighbor didn't take kindly to being awakened in the middle of the nights to cursing and threats if he didn't let the guy in. Drunk was shot and killed as he tried to break in the door.

So, yes, a very positive side ...

I said it tongue in cheek, but I worked in the apartment industry for several years. I can't tell you how common that kind of story really is. Had one dude - stoned outta' this universe - woke up half the neighborhood, almost got shot and wound up taking a header off a second floor balcony. He survived but, wow!

I imagine you see much of that too with the Rescue Squad, Art.

My only problem with the garage door is what do I do if the power is out?

Neighbor and I each have keys.

I'm thinking about putting a key on one of the dogs collars, he is friendly, only if I am next to him.

At my regular home, I do the garage door way too. What are the chances that you are locked out of the house and the power is out at the exact same time?

well, we went through all keys we got from house, sorted out all the ones that didnt fit anymore from lock changes, spare now outside on deck, in garage, and making one more for front door! Should help :>)

My suggestion....Get all locks keyed alike and different than what they were keyed before. You have no idea who still has keys for your place.

Had to climb into my house through a crank window above my garage I had miraculously left off of it's track... It took a piece of bark and some patience but I gained entry...

After that I KNEW I wouldn't get that lucky again. I made 5keys, put 1 on each key chain, one in a hiding spot, and gave one to my mom... programmed all the vehicles garage openers and added a remote key less garage opener in an inconspicuous place.

The problem is I gave my ole man the code to the garage door and I sometimes find him standing in my basement unexpectedly... :facepalm:
