Today, with all the heavy rains, we had alot of flooded roads. I heard on the scanner where a guy was stranded on a bridge with water rising from both ends. This was happening just a mile from my house, so my wife and I went to see what was going on. I recognized the truck setting on the bridge as one of my neighbors. The deputy that responded to the call met us at the edge of the water, I offered to go get the stranded man with one of my tractors. The deputy told me, if I wanted to, to go ahead and get him out of there, since the water was now starting to creep up onto the bridge. I had a small tractor (60hp 10,000lb) parked in our lot just a couple hundred yards from the scene. I got the tractor and drove though running water almost 3ft deep for almost a quarter mile to get to the bridge, picked up the stranded man, and drove him back where the deputy was waiting to take him home. Four hours later the water was down enough to get his truck off the bridge. Not a big deal, but it would've been by the time the swift water team would've got done if they had to be called out. (Last time they were out here they capsized their own boat and the person they were after had to float out on his spare tire):D

Good job!

You picked just the right vehicle too because the high weight, combined with very little sideways resistance (no body, just the tires) to the water, allowed you to get to him and back safely. The person that you rescued was also wise not to ty to drive out, because cars can be swept sideways in very little water depth, if the current is strong enough.

Horton said one man on 50th Street by Walnut drove through some high water and got stuck on top of a bridge, but someone was able to rescue him with a farm tractor

Yep, you are sort of mentioned! ;):D

I was fascinated by the Molle Automotive Group advertisement ... apparently no one told them GM doesn't manufacture Oldsmobiles any more? Or they read that Toyota has bought the name and is going to start again, but then they got the wrong insignia!;):D
