Re: HAHA I jsut got shocked at work
I learned a lot from my Dad. One of things was to turn off the breaker. I learned this because he did not believe in turning off the breaker (Ok it was fuses in those days)
We were pulling wire through conduit into our garage. He pulled and left the ends stripped and hanging in the air. I had a hold of a steel I-Beam that was bolted to the garage floor with one hand. One of the wires poked me so I grabbed a hold of it with the other hand.
I did not mean to scream, but my chest contracted so fast, the scream came out without me trying. All I saw was white specks. Luckily, I did not grab a hold too tight our I don't think I would have been able to let go. I had a huge headache and was dizzy for the rest of the day.
Now I have an AC proximity tester. I test a known live circuit to make sure it works. Then I test the circuit I am working on. If I am unsure at all, the Fluke Meter comes out.
The only time this failed was when I was working on a hanging light fixture that was hooked to knob and tube wiring. I tested with the tester and the meter. I found out the switch was on the neutral and since there was no ground, the testers did not work. when I replaced the socket, I put the proximity tester up to the new socket and it lit up like a Christmas tree. Glad I used a fiber glass ladder and did not make my own ground.
