John,

I am helping a buddy out with a 2005 236Ssi Chaparral. It has the 5.7 320 bhp Duo-prop Volvo. Seems to me to be right in the middle between the ST1290-80 and the ST1610-120. I have helped this guy with the boat since new. It does not porpoise at all when empty, like when we tested it at delivery. It runs an honest 52 MPH GPS and can be trimmed out all the way (trim limit). However, when loaded, as you can imagine he has a little trouble with it porpoising at higher speeds. With the Duo-prop he has no hole shot issues. He is definitely a turn key and boat kinda guy. Does not want to play with adjustable tabs etc.

With all of that said, I believe that the ST1290-80s would be sufficient. Keeps cost down and installation is a little simpler.

Two questions: 1) Do you agree? 2) Have you any experience with that transom? It is in storage now, so I can't get a measurement off it easily. I plan to order immediately from Iboats after your confirmation.

Oh, oh, are the blems a reasonable option? Simply previously installed units? Slightly marred? Still reasonably cosmetically OK? Ugly?

Thanks

Just an FYI -- John is traveling over to the METS show today (Sat) in Amsterdam. I'm not sure if he has computer connections or not once he gets there.

Anyway, dont think he's ignoring you because he isnt. I'm sure he'll answer ASAP.

No problem! We're all here to help. I did see him at the Marine One show in Vegas last week. I'm just glad I dont have to go to METS.

Like you signature -- we had a slight twist posted in the shop -- in God we trust...all others pay cash.

Dh,

What's your line at the boat shows? Forgive me, I see your posts often, but believe you're a bass boat guy, right? I used to work 'em for Caterpillar here locally.

Is it OK to hijack your own thread?

Not necessairly a bass boat guy. Never owned one actually but have rigged or worked on some.

My dad got into the marine business when I was young. We sold the marina later on and I went to work for a marine engine company where we had a contract with an OE to remanufacture their powerheads. After 20 years there I went to work for an aftermarket parts supplier and now work for a piston manufacturer.

Did some racing -- stock cars and boats along the way. Boy do you learn fast doing that! (Pun intended!)

Have some patience, man. :D The fair ( link ) in Amsterdam lasts until the 17th, and if I had just done a trade fair, I think I'd want a few days afterwards of sampling some local beer...

Roger that Stevens, beer is important. Just didn't want it to get buried too deep. I'm cool. Thanks for the heads up.

John,

Can I assume that the transom has room? Blems are reasonably pretty enough?

For a boat of that size i would be amazed if there was not plenty of room. Blems are minor!
