when i pull plug wires off 1,3,5 the motor does not change very much, it does change a little but not as much as when i pull 2,4,6? i pulled them 1 wire at a time, not all at once. is this coils or switch box(power packs), or carbs? i am sorry for stupid questions but i am a virgin when it comes to boat motors. i can generally fix anything but this thang makes me MAD!!! i am a mechanic by trade, but boats are different than auto's and heavy equip. someone please help me??? this thing is making my wife mad, and that's not good!!!

Don't ever pull the plug wire leads without making sure they will jump to ground... If they don't you may fry whatever good switch box you have left....

Try this... Reverse the red and blue wires from one box with the red/white and blue white from the other. (they connect at the top of each box) You will basically be switching the stator leads from one box to another.
Re-fire the engine and see if the week spark condition remains on the same three cylinders or moves to the other three. If it stays the same, it's most likely a bad switchbox that feeds the week firing cylinders. If the conditions moves to the other bank, it's your stator. Use a spark gap tester to check spark, start at 1/8" gap and proceed to find the max.

By the way, this sounds like a stator winding going bad to me... Good luck and let us know....

kc, i sent wrenchtrnr the oem check for the stator last week and i never heard what he found. everything that he has said so far on all of the posts points to the stator!
