Half Speed At Full Throttle?

I Have A 1979 70hp Evinrude That Has All Of A Sudden Become Hard To Start. I Have To Choke It And Give It Almost Full Throttle Just To Start And When It Does Start It Is Like It Only Has Half The Power! I Have Cleaned All 3 Carbs And Checked Fire On All 3 Ign Coils And I Checked The Fuel Pump Screen For Trash. Should I Rebuild The Fuel Pump?

Sure, go ahead if you want to. But more than likely that won't fix it. You need to do some trouble shooting to figure out which cylinder isn't running and then figure out why it isn't. You DID check the compression....didn't you?

I suggest you do that before running it any more. You said the problem came on all of a sudden. Hopefully not, but that sounds like it could be a blown piston. A compression test will lead you in the right direction.

MAN I HOPE THATS NOT IT!! sounds like my luck tho!! actually what i meant by all of a sudden is one weekend it started and ran fine fished all dayand went home happy the next weekend it was hard to start and run half power. i'll be getting a compression tester tommrow i'll post my findings.

Ok Cylinder #1 Has 125 Psi #2 Has 125 Psi & #3 Has 128psi So I Got Lucky There! Thank God! So You Think Its A Fuel Problem?

Do all of the fuel and ignition troubleshooting procedures. Could either be a fuel restriction or dropping a cylinder.
