Does anyone know an online source for a half-tilt bar for my 1982 Johnson 35? I seem to remember seeing one that flips up to hold the motor ina half- tilt mode. Am I crazy or does it exist?

Re: Half-tilt bar??

The lowwater position bracket is standard on the 35 Hp from 1976 and on.
With motor in neutral, place the tiltlock lever on port side of motors transum bracket in UP position, and manually tilt motor around half way up. It will now rest on bracket. Manual advises to run it only at speeds just above iddle in that position. If yours wont do that, this little U shaped bracket either froze on its shaft, or the spring that pushes it forward is broke. Another option is someone took bracket apart and forgot to put the part on again.

Thanks alot. I'll check this afternoon.

One thing-- it does not have the original trim rod-- it has a long stainless bolt that is actually a little larger diameter than the original rod. I know it is bigger because the motor will not lock down on the bolt.

I think your bracket is frozen, then. The original trim rod has a diameter that fits in the trim holes in the bracket, with a little play. I dont think it is possible to get a bolt thru the holes that it too thick for the lock. Are the holes in your bracket drilled bigger ??

No, they are not. It is only slightly bigger, just enough that the "hook" will not fully engage on the bolt. I have moved it to several trim positions while setting it up and have had no problem with it fitting. I'll check out the bracket today. Thanks again.

The bracket will sit under the "hook" on same shaft if I remember right. When hook is lifted to release, bracket should flip out and rest on trimrod. This movement is depending on the tension in a couple of springs and they should be greased now and then.

Checked it out thoroughly. Looks like I am missing the necessary part. Anyone have any ideas?
