We are rural also and see no kids in costume. I, as the youngest person on our street (47) go to my neigbor's dressed as a carpenter. It's good for a laugh and a beer.

I do buy at least a bag of reese's cups just in case:D

Re: Halloween Candy

We get around 50 or so. We've been getting the full size bars instead of the mini's most give out. Fifty kids equals 2-boxes of 30 each, with a couple of extras.;) around $30.00 worth at BJ's

We actually went to BJ's today to pick 'em up, and on the next register over seen a guy with a shopping cart full of boxes of full bars, actually overfull, fallin out on the floor, and their carriages are huge!

Was killing me not to ask if they were for trick or treaters, as the register rang in at $590.00, of just candy!!!

Couldn't believe my eyes. But heard him saying it was for an office or something like that. Whew. One of my co workers lives in Putnam, CT and averages 400 kids, Now he gets the mini's!! :D

they ruined Halloween here. they do TRUNK or treat at the churches.. hardly anyone goes out door to door. I really don't get it,, I am a HUGE halloween fan. and I feel left out.

as a matter of fact utah is having Halloween on SATURDAY the 30th because they don't do stuff on sunday.. HOW LAME.

Oh well I wait until after Halloween and buy TONS of leftover candy.. it usually lasts me the year, and we have 7 kids between us..

Happy Halloween

Re: Halloween Candy

None ... don't do the Trick-or-Treat thing because we are usually not at home on the official night. I am not a big candy eater, and the family eats less than most. This year I am making a concerted effort to loose some weight (over 40 pounds shed since May with less than 20 more to go by the end of the year and another 40 by next October are the goals), so the family is being supportive and there is no halloween candy to be found in the house (now what they have in other secret stashes might be another story;):D).

Re: Halloween Candy

We go thru a decent size bowl of candy. My wife buys a couple bags of mixed stuff to hand out.

Honestly tho, I freaking hate Halloween. I hate the kids knocking on my door, I hate the interruption, I hate giving candy out that costs me money. Its just one of the events during the year that I could easily live without.

Oh BROTHER!!! The way I read your Charles Dickens statement is that you would rather curl up in the fetal position with a bag of tater chips, watching old reruns of NYPD Blue than see the little buggers all decked out looking for cavities?

It's a once a year deal where you can scare the feces out of em without getting the cops called on you. Then you give them your hard earned candy. It's absolutely priceless!

Better Halloween scare tactics then NFL tackling scares, not so many fines???

Re: Halloween Candy

we go through almost no candy. my son, my wife, and i are out from 7 to 9 dressed to the nines begging for candy. if there is anybody who comes after nine they get the crap candy we don't like. (better than throwing it out) after that myself, my wife, and my son, goes to the neighbors for a Halloween party til late in the night. the kid is three and been wearing his costume everyday for a week already. we are going as pirates.........i might make my wife keep the costume for adult time later!

I'm not really a fan of Halloween either but I've got a 3 year old this year so I'll be a good sport. We had to buy more candy this year because we ran out last year during trick or treat. I did throw some older kids with no costumes off my porch last year. I was pretty proud of that :D

Re: Halloween Candy

We live in an area where most of the homes are vacant due to the fact that they are weekend beach houses.

Every year you can sign up and be on the list that is giving out at halloween as a house that gives candy and participates. Sometimes, they have a hay ride and take the kids around that way.

It's not a bad thing for our neighborhood and I rather like having a choice on whether or not to participate.

I can remember one year, I was sick as a dog. We turned off all the lights in the house so we wouldn't be bothered but they rang the doorbell anyway till nearly 10 p.m.

Before I moved, we lived in a busy neighborhood. We would give out candybars with business cards of the local dentist taped to them :D Now we live on a busy highway that is too dangerous for pedestrians. So no more candy, no more cards, and No more discounts from my dentist ...
