Definitely a jaunt for a 14' even for a much larger craft. As I am only 5 min. away from Bayfront, that will be my home launch.

I do however plan on an eastern basin launch very soon as the ice has made it's way to Waverly and beyond towards the river mouth. I am predominately a Northern shore Lake Erie sailer as the fishing is awesome and always exciting. So many species to catch and the summer beaches provide a very scenic view..

I have not been on Erie at all and would like to take my kids fishing there, can you give me some info??

Also, Heading upto Nippising for the August long weekend trailering the boat up and keeping it at the marina for a few days. I take it your familiar with the area??

Hi woodie,

The best spots to take the family on Erie are along the shoreline from Port Colborne to Knight's Beach. There are plenty of weed beds and rock piles that hold plenty of little scrappers. No more than 15' of water till the middle of May...The wally's will also be cruisin the weed edges and drop offs till the water warms above 50.

This is a good place for hydrographic maps if you are interested. They show all the contours and obstructions and also pinpoint the species and where they play.

I do consider myself a connoisseur of the Great Nipissing...Callander Bay is the best family hot spot for all species of fish. From sunfish to monster gators can be found in that sweet little cove. There is plenty of grass on the north side to hold the perch and panfish, which we all know the gators love to eat..

The south and east sides have nice rocky points and humps that hold nice scrappin smallies... The wally's are roamin all over the lake and like drop offs with pleny of cover close by. If you have a sonar you will have plenty of action. If you can, check out the above link and choose your battlefields. He is cheap and friendly and I got all mine in a tube as we know what folding maps can do...

Wasn't any of you guys that ended up in the drink on the weekend, was it??

Unbelievable - three guys in a tin tippy, choppy water with one life jacket... lucky they all made it.

I did not get the boat in the water this weekend. got it cleaned up and running. next weekend is supposed to be a beauty!

Nope none of us that I know of. My friend Greg of Bill's Bait had a Perch Derby that weekend and apparently they came in to his shop smellin of booze at 5:30 a.m.

The were nasty boys who thought they knew it all. Dunnville Mudcats I believe. anyway these three know-it-alls forgot the most important thing before launching.....

Anyone care to guess??

Yup, that's right. They forgot the plug...What chooches...Well, they didn't get too far when they realized they were sinkin...One dork made it to shore and the other 2 clung on for dear life waiting on someone to risk their livee savin their sorry a**es....

Apparently a wack of charges have been laid and you won't be seeing these d*cks on the water too soon....

And the moral of this story is........

I was hoping to make it down there this weekend for same wally's. But still waiting on the 5200 to cure on my fish finder transponder. Grrr...it's been chilly all week and the silicone is refusing to cure. Might be a dry weekend for me this weekend. Ah well, got some work to get done around the house anyhow.

Wow......I figured it was an accident of some kind......not just morons doing something stupid.

I might drop her in the harbour again this Sunday and try to chase some pike.....

What winds do I want to avoid the harbour or the north shore of the lake with? Any ideas? Today was rough with mild west winds I believe and the other day had stronger winds (not sure of direction) but was calm.

Your best for the bay are the SW..

The north shore of ANY body of water prefers the North (off shore) winds..

From Toronto to Grimbsy I would wait for calm or NW winds...
It's best to follow the prvious day and night weather conditions to help project the future water conditions...

I have been trying to enjoy Erie, but the prevailing westerly winds have kept the chop consistant..

Hey fellas how are ya?? I just bought a 1987, 17.5' thundercraft with a 140hp mercruser on it.. Can't wait to get out on hamilton harbour for some fishing.. where are some good spots for bass and muskie and walleye??
