Hampton 220 with standing water in bow

Hey everyone, I have a 1994 larson hampton 220. When I put it away this past fall (first season with the boat) I noticed standing water in the bow portion of the cabin in the small storage compartment. I traced this leak to being from standing water in the bow anchor well. The anchor well has two drain holes but they do not extend to the very bottom of it - basically water was sitting below the anchor well's drain holes and seeping into the front part of the cabin where it was then standing in this compartment that has carpet over it. I sucked this water out with a shopvac and looked this spring to find it filled back up with water (was never in the water during winterization ,must have water getting into the anchor well). Looks like someone tried an expandable foam on this problem, where there is no wood or fiberglass between a section of the anchorwell and the rest of the boat. I think the foam dried out. I attempted to fill the six inch by 3 inch triangular gap with four layers of fiberglass cloth and resin, and then some 3M marine sealant on top of that. I also weatherstripped the door to the anchor well. Has anyone else had this problem with leaking out of the anchor well? Seems like a very poor design to be able to accumulate standing water in the anchor well that can't drain. Very poor placement of the drains indeed. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jer

Re: Hampton 220 with standing water in bow

I've had water leak thru my anchor locker after a very heavy rain. I think the locker filled up, then ran back along the hull shelf inside and got the carpet wet. The boat was on the trailer, with the bow elevated. Maybe the elevated bow increased the water that drained back. It hasn't happened since, so I haven't really corrected the problem.

This is my first attempt at a boat forum, so I don't know if this will work.

I too have water in mine front compartment. But what I found was that my sun roof leaks water in bad rain storms. You don't see it because the white carpeted roof hides the water. But the water flows down to the front of the bow and drips down between the cushions and into that compartment.
Be sure to check your sunroof.

Hi,

I m currently interested in buying either hampton 235 or Hampton 220...latter is cheaper here in Malta. Question is whether you think there is much difference in quality and handling between the 2 models...engine is volvo v6 for both so issue excludes engine.

thanks

Hi ,

I m undecided whether to buy hampton 220 or hampton 235. the former is more cheaper and more affordable to me. Do you recommend to spend much less and buy a hampton 220 with volvo v6 than hampton 235 with same engine?

cheers

I am interested is selling my 93 Larson Hampton 220, with trailer. It has the volvo Penta 6 cylinder and has less than 300 hours. It's a great boat, but my dream has been to own a Mako center console, and I have found one. I have it advertised on Vermont craigslist. if interested, contact me. Steve
