I Hope this is the appropriate place for this... I am looking for information on how to build a motor that is crank powered. I know they made them back in the 30's. There were 2 companies that made them but they no longer exist.

Re: hand crank boat motors

Howdy, waggs.

Welcome to iboats. :)

I remember those. They worked but were difficult to use. The main reason they are no longer made is that people who bought them quit using them very quickly and went back to paddles. The one I remember best had a tiller-like handle that the user worked up and down.

I made a one handed paddle for a veteran who had lost an arm. I used one of those a lot. Worked a lot better and was light and cheap. Can't find those anymore, either.

I think this will get better exposure in the Non-repair Outboard forum. I will move it there.

Agreed. If it was a good idea, they would still be made. Energy is a "thing", or more accurately "work". It takes more of it to operate a machine than to move a simple paddle or pole. That means more work.

But if you just want to create an interesting novelty, go right ahead. You have my blessings. Show us a picture of your creation.
