Hand soap for us grease monkeys.

Well, with the advent of Spring I am once again elbows deep in machinery of one kind or another.<br /><br />I think it was about 1946 that my Dad, who also had a love affair with anything mechanical, introduced me to Boraxo. He used both the cream and the powdered versions.<br /><br />I used the last of my last can of powdered Boraxo last Summer. I haven't found it anywhere since.<br /><br />I have tried Goop, Lava, and a variety of other products. They all leave my hands feeling oily or like dried parchment. None have left my hands feeling clean, like Boraxo always did.<br /><br />Any leads on where I can get my Boraxo powdered hand soap?

Do you Know anybody the ever makes down to the border. Cheap and easy to find over there...Give them a $20 doller bill and that should cover you for a long time.

You will have to find a distributor for this, but this is what they use down at the boatyard. So far it has cut thru everything I have encountered…that should be removed. Hards will feel clean...they ARE clean!<br /><br />TKO made by Zep. Ive been using the Liquid Glove product lately, (when I can remember to use it). Pobably available at most hardware stores), You put a dab in the palm of your hand and keep rubbing it all over your hands, under your fingernails and cuticals, When its time to wash your hands, I use Palmolive dishwashing liquid and your hands will look like new. Ive also started using latex gloves as of late when Im going to drain oil or fill lower units, makes for an easy cleanup.

I ususally just stay greasy for a week or two until it wears off.

For what it's worth......<br /><br />I use GoJo, with pumice,+ lanolin.........<br />I get it at the local NAPA store.......

there's a place around me that has it.. but only sells big bulk of it.. where you'd havta have a 21 mule team to haul it..<br /><br />i do like those 'gojo's' with orange.. <br />but still need to wash off with dish soap..<br /><br />worked in an 'ole textile mill in the day..made uniforms for both the USA an CSA armies..<br /><br /> the oldest greasiest machinery.. old flappin' drive belts/no shrouds.. <br />550 volt 3 ph knob & tube.. <br /><br />only had old naptha soap an a container of sand to wash up.. <br /><br />get hands soapy,, dip in alittle sand .. <br />it really worked.<br /><br />underneath the 3rd derm layer,, it was pretty darn clean...

Any major engine work on a 300D, SD, SDL (all diesels). Has the potential to have me wearing grime for days. Being a professional "Dirtyshirt", I've tried them all.<br /><br />The best for sure is ZEP TKO. It has boraxo, lanolin and detergents that won't bother your skin. Excellent stuff.

I use a can of Whisk that I first used at work. This stuff is great and will even cut paint and polyurethane fast. It has no abrasives though, but it works great. Also, you can put some one your clothes before you wash and it seems to do fine on that also.

Ahoy, RWise.<br /><br />Are you sure that is Boraxo hand soap and not just 20 Mule Team Borax laundry supplement?<br /><br />If it really is Boraxo in the oval metal can (or equivalent) where are you? If I send you a few bux would you buy me some and send it to me?

JB<br />I'll look at it tonight when I get home, but I'd bet there both the same thing with diferent lables. Something like 100% borax. It does work well, I don't like the others for the same reasons you give. I am still in Sapulpa,OK.<br />Richard

Not to change the subject, but within the last 2-3 years, I've developed an allergy to certain kinds of soap. If my hands touch dishwashing liquid or most detergents, I develop a reaction similar to touching poison oak.<br /><br />Has anyone else experienced this?
