Re: Handi Cap Modification on trolling motor

:D, I think that feature is in the switch it's self, I'm not 100% positive that it is, witch I'm not using the original switch from the car anyway. I'm sorry TD yes it will stop on it's own, I was trying to mention the fact that you can make it turn all the way around while holding the switch, let off the switch and it will stop, try to go in the opposite direction and it won't do it until the 10th to 20th try hitting the switch then it will finally move. I can't use it like that because it will twist the wires when turning 360 degrees. Something isn't right with the motor it's self. I might half to break yet another motor out and get the armature out of it and make another parts swap.

I'm glad I seem to have the project going still, I dreaded the thought of yanking the wires I ran through the hull out, covering the hole I drilled in the bow switch panel and buying a new pedestal to replace the one I drilled the big hole in, but I am not out of the woods yet. I still half to fill in the holes I drilled for when I mounted the steering motor under the cap.

Re: Handi Cap Modification on trolling motor

I found out the problem is in the motor reversing solenoid. When I finally got some extra hands around, I had my father operate the switch (he was working it in both directions) when I checked both output posts with a test light to the solenoid and it was only putting out power to the one side only the other side was dead. ALWAYS ALWAYS something :)mad: with steam coming out). So I got to figure out how to fix that to keep from buying another one at 50 dollars a pop. I would try and return it but I already had it apart once to solder the positive post that came loose. Now the post is loose again witch is a totally different problem now. To put the cherry on top of the cake my father came up with the bright idea to jump a wire from the positive post to the side that wasn't getting power on the solenoid so my bright self went and done that, this blew the fuse and I hope it didn't burn anything else up.

Got it working in both directions :):):). Works well. Still got to find 1 more push button switch, then I can start the process of building a control box, and finishing the wrest of it up. I would like to add a grease fitting to the motor house because the gear is running on a race so I most likely will need some way to lube it. Or I could leave it like it is and lube it though the hole with white grease. Thought about making another spare gear just in case I need it in the future. I did start another thread to get some ideas on a custom cover for this trolling motor, I would like to make it out of clear plastic. I'll post a video or picture of the finished product in action, I had the mercury on video when I had it working, glad I didn't take the time to upload it to photobucket.
