I wonder why the terrorist would be happy to see the dismantling of the band of fools that rubber-stamped the policies that got them so many recruits?
Getting your undys in a wad now that we have at last started a sane policy, seems to me all would be rejoicing.
As for as fighting the war on terror, in Iraq all we have been doing there was provide al-Qaeda a boot camp for training purposes that they could send there recruits to now that Afghanistan was not available to them.
Lets look at the Bush policy on counterterrorism prior to 9/11.Lets start with Attorney Gen John Ashcroft,it seems that he had seven strategic goals outlined on May 2001,none of the goals was counterterrorisim. That in spite of the memo he got from Jan. 25,2001 from counterterrorism coordinator Richard Clarke.

It seems to me that at least one of his strategic goals would be after seeing that memo ,would be counterterrirism wouldnt it?
It will eventually make its way up the list but started out a bit lower.
Ashcroft wanted to cut counterterrorism by $65 mill. For equipment grants, even $20 Mill. For border control. In Attorney General Janet Reno's budget for 2000, counterterrorism was her first priority.i can hear the gasp now .
It seem that by August 2001, Ashcroft created a "strategic plan" document to spotlight his priorities. Out of 36 "objectives" Ashcroft highlighted 13 in yellow.
They were Highlight=AG goal.13 were in yellow. Objective1.3 was combat terrorist, 1.3 was not highlighted.
Amazingly Ashcroft released a revised strategic plan that contained the same strategic goals as the original and one addition.
Now his No. 1 goal: "Protect America Against the Threat of Terrorism." But who had neglected it before 9/11?my O my that is very interesting isnt it?
My point in this rambling? This isnt all the fault of any one party; a whole lot of the blame could be put on the present occupants of the executive offices with an s.
