Hello to the forum.

I have a 1979 15hp Evinrude, model 15904E. It is cold blooded, takes a few pulls to start, the problem is it is very hard to start after running and setting a few mintues to half an hour, it will start right up if I shut it off then try starting right away.
It takes about 15 pulls to start and that many cuss words.
I bought this motor used so I don't have a history on it.
I did back in November put 3/4 can of seafoam in a gallon of fuel then put the remainder in a squirt can which I sprayed in the carb while it was running.
Should I check the screen in the fuel pump, kit the carb or could it be a spark problem?
Your suggestions are appreciated.

Re: Hard Starting 15hp

Do you choke it on attempted restart? I found my motor needs the choke after 10-15 minutes off. Fires up easily that way.

Choke helps pull more fuel to air into cylinder and reduces vaporization(evaporation)

There are a few possibilities.

First check for spark when you can't start it, when the motor sits for a few minutes after running the heat from the block can migrate into the coils and cause them to fail.

Rebuild the carbs.

Check compression, low compression can create hard starting.

I will try that next time I'm on the lake. Thanks for your reply.

I ran the motor in a test barrel for 15 minutes, then used a spark tester, nice blue spark. I then did a compression test, it showed 110 psi in both cylinders.
Thanks for your reply.
