Hi Guys,

I'm a new boat owner n need your help. I have a second-hand Mercury 90hp Pontoon. I only used it once. It took awhile for it to get started the last time we took it out to the lake. Now I'm having a difficulty to get it started. I'm afraid of over pumping n flood the engine. What should I do ? Please help:) thanks

here is another tip that I fail to follow half the time, the forum has auto correct and if you fail to carefully re-read what you wrote you get stuff other then what you meant. see my post above I said, once the fuel bowl is full and it came out once the full bowls are full, just watch for it to do that

The forums do not have Auto Correct. It's the device or browser you are using. Just don't want peeps to think it's the forum.

Yeah - Once the bulb is firm, it is very difficult to overcome the float/needle. But if you persevere, it can be done if the hose or a gasket doesn't blow first.

Thank you guys for your kindly responses. My Mercury 90 hp pontoon is 2- stroke/ auto mixed oil injection with 3 cylinders. I kept pumping the bulb until it hard n the lever in upper position. It still won't start , only crank n crank. What should I do next? Thanks

If your seeing rainbow in water its flooding and needs fuel system looked at. To start...1) pump bulb till hard 2) raise warm up level halfway 3) push and hold in key while cranking till it hits and let off,if its startsto stall push key back in. 4)lower warm up lever and feather choke if needed till warmed up.

Doubt it seeing that it ran once, obviously the kill switch has to be in the run position.

Often difficulties in starting engines are operator errors. Faztbullet described the correct start procedure for you, to avoid flooding don't crank for more that 10 seconds, allow 30 seconds between start attempts.

If above does not work for you more info is needed.

Have the compression checked and report the results.
Check you have a nice strong bright blue spark on all 3 plugs.
Does the engine crank really strong on the starter motor?

Describe better what happens when trying to start, i.e. does it just crank and crank, or do you get some kind of indication she wants to start.
