Hi fellow boaters,I have a 165H.P.straight six engine. The only way that it will start is for Me to pour a little gas down the carb.It will crank for about 1.5 secs then start. It runs fine after that, even at W.O.T. Should the choke be closed when starting or does it open a little when I pump the gas.It puzzles Me since I do not have any problems after it starts.Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Ayuh,... Advancing the throttle to Wot, cold, should close the choke for cold startin'...
I usually pump mine a couple of times...

It's possible the carb is leakin' off, internally, 'n it needs the help for the fuelpump to reprime the carb...
Pumpin' the accelerator pump, Cold, should tell ya if the carb has gas to work with...
