hard starting

1987 15 horse johnson: Have to spray a bit of starting fluid into the throat of the carb if I want it to start. Runs great until it cools down and then have to use starting fluid to get it going again..

Chuckles,<br />Welcome to the forum!<br /><br />Sounds like you've got a fuel delivery problem. Remove, clean and install a carb rebuild kit. Pay attention to the low speed idle circuit. Spray all parts with carb cleaner and blow out all passages with compressed air. <br /><br />Try not to use starting fluid in an outboard motor. Starting fluid will strip oil from the cylinder walls and do real damage quickly. Use a spray bottle with fuel mix (gas and outboard oil) instead.<br /><br />Keep us posted of you're progress

Thanks Captain Gtting ready for deer season,aferwards will take your suggestions.. Thanks for the tip on not using the starting fluid
