Hi all;
I have a Mercruiser (1981) I/O inline 6 which I rebuilt 2 years ago. Running very well but hard to turnover alot.
I'm going to move 1 of the 2 batteries (1 yr old) back to the stern shortening my power cable from 10+ feet down to 4.
I'll re-check my timing to make sure it's not advanced too far.
I'm wondering if I should replace my starter as well. I'm not sure if it's original - she does heat up a bit. I'm not sure if starters run down or just quit. Please let me know.
Also, while I'm checking my timing at 500+ rpm (8-9 degrees), how much advance should there be at say 2500-3000 RPM? Just so I can check both ends of the spectrum.
Thanks!
