Hard to initially start 1996 112hp

My 1996 has a bit of a problem initially starting. It takes some cranking to get it to turn over. Once its running for a minute its fine all day. Any ideas? This problem has plagued the past 2 owners, could it be the carbs are running badly or is it a fuel problem?

human error, is 99 % hard start problems. read this

Well my procedure is usually sort of the following....now its a center console
1. put the key in.
2. turn the key and try turning it over while pushing it in for choke.
3. when this does not work I push the button in and put the lever up to give it gas.
4. usually now it fires over but then sputters and stops.
5. now i remember the primer bulb
6. so I turn the key and she cranks and cranks
7. i mix in a few pushes so the choke closes.
8. after about 3 minutes of struggling she starts.

as i said human error, your procedure is completely wrong, READ THE LINK I POSTED. it will start right up with that procedure.

Wow I read that thread about starting and now I will try the following.

1. tilt the motor up a bit.
2. squeeze the primer bulb.
3. move the throttle into the neutral position.
4. push the key in for an 8-10 count.
5. turn the key.

sounds like a plan....any suggestions to my simplified version?

fast idle up, not at idle, once started, you slow it down,

squeeze bulb until it is hard, you have ti fill carbs when pumping, it will soften when fuel pump starts pumping fuel.

All I can say is wow. I ran to the dock today and tried the procedure and she started right up. I was shocked....THANKS THANKS THANKS
