My 1974 115 Evirude is hard to start after running it for 15 minute at 45 rpm in the water. It is not running hot but I did notice after trying to start it the starter is staying engage

I just had the carb. done. I wonder, by the starter staying engage is it killing my battery that fast.

Second problem is that I try hooking up a old teleflex tach. I know the ign. go to the purple wire and the send go the gray and the ground go to ground. I took one back to the place I brought it from and got another one and this one is doing the same thing. What am I doing wrong.

riverrat@inteliport.com

Lets start with the tach. Is it just not working? How about the battery? Is it low? Ya see, if the rectifier is bad, the tach won't work and the battery won't charge. Post back and lettus know.

c/6

Hooty

Re: Hard to start after running for a while

Hi Hooty
About the tach. the rectifier is work because I took my meter and check the battery and its reading 13 to 14 volts. Like me start for the begining, As I was told I don't have the right control box for that engine. Its a old johnson control box and it does't have a plug to hook up a tach. It doesn't have the plug that go for the control box to the plug at the engine. I ran a push button to the engine to start it. So I know the rectifier is working.

riverrat@inteliport.com

Just because you have a stepped up voltage on the rectifier does not mean it works. The rectifier is also put in place to make the current only go 1 way.

TMD
