Hard to start merc 4 syl 40hk

my murcury will not start. it cranks for a very long time before it starts(many minutes). it has an el choke, can it be broken? what is the right prosedure.<br /><br />if i use some startgas it starts, and after it first have started it starts wery easyly.<br /><br />My sparks are not changed, they get wet when i crank<br /><br />its an 90-94 mod i think

Hi Bobbo, try pumping the primer bulb prior to starting.

Bobbo I had the same problem with starting mine in fact so did everyone else that used the motor.This works for me:<br />1)pump the primer bulb till it is hard.<br />2)put your remote on throttle only.<br />3)open it up all the way.<br />4)push the key in and turn at the same time.<br />After a few rotations it should zap to life. This works for me. Good luck

Hi Thanks for the tip. I gues that push the key is the Chooke? but i think there are somting wrong with my chooke. how can i check that it works right?<br /><br />I have just hoocked op my "new" motor and connected all the wiring, and to the ignition switch there are tree wires, two for the starter and another one(brown) that are connected but not in use(when i messure the connection). what are that wire for? Where can i get a wiring diagram?<br />cold it be for stoping the engine?<br /><br />many qustions, but this forum i great, iv already recomended it for some friends of mine:)
