'67 Johnson 6hp - Motor runs good, don't think it idles all that good. Took off carb and cleaned. It lookes real clean inside except for a little gunk around the high speed jet when removed (cleaned idle jets and passages with wire). It is still hard to start (when "cold" - starts good when "warmed up"). No, I have not checked compression or spark - yet (cause it runs so good). I'm thinking it's the coils and/or points- they're original although the points had been adjusted in the past. Planning on replacing coils and other ignition parts when I can get access to puller & torque wrench & money (have read many threads on proper procedure). Just wondering what you think off the top of your head, so to speak. Thanks.

starting procedure, pump bulb till hard, neutral, throttle as far as it will turn, choke out, three to four pulls, repump bulb, choke in pull, then choke out. pull. it should have started by now.

That "gunk" around the high speed jet, thats looks like gunk to you, might be a deteriorated old fiber washer that should be replaced
