I am planning on redoing the hard top on my Seamaster 26 due to the fact it has some small holes (drilled, not by me!) and when it rains I get lots of brown stains on the floor and dash. I assume that is due to the wood core but not sure. I really don't want to paint this thing very often. Is there a paint that someone has used that they would recommend? By the way I am going to fill all the holes with glass filler.

I used a urethane enamel - it has pretty good staying power - also consider purchasing a hlvp paint gun and spraying your paint.

If you spray it opens up the ability to use some decent automotive finishes. Nowadays the new paints are pretty easy to use if you can follow instructions.

I like NAPA two stage paints.

I do have a spray gun but I like Bondo's ideal, it's a little cheaper. ......lol.

Re: Hard top paint

When I was at the Chandlery here in Ottawa picking out paint for my boat, they encouraged me to stay away from two part and enamel finishes for wood, as humidity swells the wood and cracks the finish, has anybody had problems with this before? I had wanted to use Brightside Interlux two part urethane for a quality finish, but they said those paints are only acceptable for use on fiberglass. Rust-oleum enamel also finishes hard just like the Brightside, so I am assuming that would cause the same problems?

Hey chargerboy,
Brightsides is single part. Perfection is the two-pack.

My apologies, I confused the two. I ended up buying the two part Perfection anyways, as there's a bit of fiberglass on my boat.
