Okay, so I was just writing in the kneeboard and wanted to put something up where we could laugh at ourselves when we talk about out hardest bails we have had in water sports...

Re: Hardest Bails...

My hardest one to date...
My dad and I were riding alone last summer. The lake was so smooth, it was beautiful. I decided to have him crank the boat up to 30-32 MPH just so I could have fun with some huge spray while cutting out (Wanted to be a slalom skier). We had no weight in the boat, so the wake was very tiny. As I was coming back in from a HS edge (Now riding toe side), I hit the wake slightly off balance.
Needless to say, I did a FS 90. Hit the water so hard, just a royal faceplant. I was actually bleeding from the inside of my eyelids when I got out of the water. I couldn't see normal for almost a full week after that.

Re: Hardest Bails...

About ten years ago or so I took the SOL and his buddy out skiing and kneeboarding for the day. They had helped me with some home projects. I took my best friend out too. Well, the SOL in did very well as neither had done anything before on the water. His friend though provided the entertainment. Skiing was first. My friend gave the instructions, one of which was no matter what happens, don't let go of the rope. Well, you know how you fall forward when you learn how to ski? He fell backwards. Imagine now, he's still holding onto the rope skipping like a stone feet first, and we're on plane already. To this day, he hasn't had any children. Obviously not the sharpest knife in hte drawer. Next came the wakeboard. Same instructions. This turned out to be nothing short of hilarious. Doubtful my description is going to do it justice. Well, they had a problem getting up in the kneeling position so they just laid down and held the rope. This worked out well until we decided to do some maneuvering and hit some wakes, etc. The board was actually bouncing between the water and his belly. like a reed valve. He went upside down, sideways, you name it. Gotta give him credit, he held on the whole time. At the end of the day, this poor kid withstood so much abuse, the only spot that wasn't bruised was behind his left ear. This my friends is what you call fun!
Now, I take it much easier on the youngun's. The biggest thrill is trying to through the braver willing ones from the tube...it's kinda like bull riding!

First was a wakeboard incident, tried to switch over and was right behind the boat in the white water. Got about half way around caught the front edge and wamo worst faceplant EVER. The worst part was when my legs came over my head I honestly thought my back was broken. Close second was a wipeout on the airchair, first learning to ride one and got totally out of control while leaning to one side, natural instinct kicked in and I leaned back hard. Shot me out of the water about 8' and landed flat on my side. Water pounded in my ear and felt like I crushed a few ribs when the air completely left my body. Still love to do both though....

Back when I was young and stupid I wanted to see what it was like to ski at 70 mph.
I was on the outside of the wake on a turn hit a small wave wrong and found out that water at those kinds of speeds feels like concrete.

Re: Hardest Bails...

When I was a senior in high school (nearly 20 years ago), I was a pretty good kneeboarder and liked to "showboat" whenever I had an audience. This one particular afternoon, I was boarding very close to a local beach and noticed a few bikini's that needed to see me in action. I dropped the retractable fins so I could cut on a dime to jump a huge wake. For whatever reason (probably the thought of having those bikini's rubbing against me), I completely mis-judged the distance from my board to the actual beach. As you can imagine, kneeboards tend to stop in their tracks when they hit sand. When there is a foolish rider sitting on top, the rider keeps going (ie momentum) once the board digs into the sand. Needless to say, I hit the beach with my mouth wide open (I think I was swearing at the time...oh sh#$#!!!) and filled it completely and nearly gagged on it. Unfortunately, the bikini's thought I had died and left the scene... Darn the luck!!!

Re: Hardest Bails...

Was skiing behind my brother's boat and dropped one to slalom. When I did, somehow I caught the toe of the other and lost it as well. He throttled up just as I lost the remaining ski and I was barefooting on 50' of rope. I slid around and did a backroll then got back up after bouncing across the wake. I ran for a few steps - he counted three - before noseplanting into another backroll. This went on for a few hundred yards before it dawned on me to let go of the rope.

At least I had the presence of mind to push my thumb into the opening in my long neck before I went down. The brew was safe and I was very sore. My brother thought it was the funniest thing he had ever seen. This was of course pre youtube.

Re: Hardest Bails...

Family used to have property on Pleasant Lake Wisc. When I was younger I would go up evey weekend. Like clockwork my buddy would be waiting in his boat at 1000A.M. We used to step off the dock right onto the slalom ski when starting. After one session I let go of the rope and came skiing up to the dock. I misjudged ny speed and tried to sit/stop right on the dock. I must have bounced my a.. three times across the dock right off the other end.

Can you say splinters.

Re: Hardest Bails...

first afternoon learning to wakeboard... cruisin along at ~22 mph riding heal side. i leaned forward a little bit, caught the front edge and she started heading for the bottom. i popped out of the boots and superman'd for 20 yards before face planting hard.

when i was 14-16 yo, my buddy had a camp on a lake and early in the morning before anyone else was out, his uncle would take us tubing and see if we could hold on through the "death spins". i was a strong kid, but i went skipping across the surface more times than i'd like to remember.
