i think i'll just get the oak because thats what they have at home depot...any ideas for the rear bench seats?

this is the link for my whole project

I would not use Oak for anything on a boat but trim on the instrument cluster --that way i could watch it rot as each wave splashed it !!
As for the back seats -- get a couple lawn chairs so you can take them out easy when you replace the deck again soon !!
It is your boat --do it your way !!

None of the PT wood is touching the boat. Under the slats are stringers you cant see going from left to right. Each slat is screwed into the stringer and the stringer sits up on top of the main rails of the boat. The hidden stringers are cut with a curve so the floor will conform with the bottom shape of the boat. I used a poly stain and coated each side well before installation. The places on the main rail where the stringers are connected were painted with epoxy paint. I dont think the pt wood is an issue in the way I put it together

Everyone makes a big deal out of "Marine plywood" when really its the same as a good A/B plywood and less than half the cost. True Marine plywood is nothing more than an A/A rated ply and it gets 2 A's because of the finished sides. The real secret is the glue and ply layers. A/B or even a B/C rating is fine for use on your boat and just like anything else it just needs to be sealed properly. The point being is you can make your planks from a ply because the edges won't be seen, they would be lighter, and you can sand and stain them any color you wanted with your gloss finish. even if you seal it the oak will darken from sunlight and if it cracks then the seal does no good once moisture gets in the cracks. I'd say oak would be my last choice. If you're in NY then I would think there is some type of reclaimed lumber supplier where you can get some teak fairly reasonable. I know I found a place in Detroit like that and their prices are hard to beat.

also, nothing is waterproof. You may seal you wood but eventually there will be a crack, chip, split, or worn spot for water entry, and then you have a water bottle with all the water trapped inside.

I think you would do okay with oak or any hardwood for that matter(although heavy).
It's used in wooden pallets that get beat around and wet all the time.
The deck in his boat isn't going to be submerged in water,it's more like a outside patio,on an ocean front property.
Even cedar (pretty soft)would be okay,it's not like you are going to be dropping the anchor and heavy objects around and so it gets alittle ding in it...adds some character.

Have you thought about Ipa? They are using on decks more and more.
