Has anyone used sodablasting to remove paint, both bottom and topsides, and how did it work out? I have an old 22ft fiberglass hardtop that has a very bad ,poor quality application and material. I want to get the old paint off and repainted with a high quality gloss paint. I have not tried paint stripper yet, I was going to buy a sodablaster any way.
Any help would be great.
The boat will be on trailer, dry stored

Your going the buy one?
Not the little hand held 3/8" hose type I hope.

I have not used soda but have used plastic media.
It will remove most paint just fine without damaging the fiberglass.
We tried it on Imeron and did not touch it.

Re: Has any one sodablast fiberglass

I have been looking at the Eastwood conversion for my 50 or so pound pressure pot blaster. I will use it for my Garden tractor restorations, I thought it might work on removing the old peeling paint off the fiberglass. I was hoping to get more usage from a new tool purchase.
thanks

Although not a direct answer to your question, have you looked into the soda blasters that hook up to a pressure washer? They are pretty inexpensive (less than $100) and you don't have any dust to deal with because the water stream knocks the dust down.

I have not heard of these, do you have a source or place to get one.

Thanks

If you google soda blasting you will get a pretty good idea about the results

Any type of dry blasting makes a MASSIVE mess outside if it is not draped and i cant see a homeowner having a big enough compressor to work at more than a snail pace

I have heard of people using the pressure washer sandblast attachments and just running soda through them. That's what I was referring to. Sorry for any confusion. BTW here is a link to what I'm talking about.

Thats what I was thinking.
Blasting takes a huge volume of air or it will literally take weeks of work with a little 3/8" hose and a 5HP compressor.
Have you ever seen them sand blasting the painted lines off the road.
That is the kind of air volume needed to do blasting.

I have a 80gal 175psi 27cubic feet per min. aircompressor. I had forgotten about the pressure washer attachment, I bought one a few years ago it works well with blasting slag, black beauty. I will get a bag of soda and see how it goes.
I live on two acres and have a small shop/garage 28x36. so I guess I am not a typical homeowner.
Thanks for all of your help
Ron
