Has anyone built a bracket for a kicker engine?

I am rebuilding my transom on a 1970's starcraft and was thinking about making a bracket to hang a 5 hp kicker engine off as an emergency backup. I know its not gonna go very fast but my starcraft aluminum is light and if my main engine quits its better then nothing.

I have seen some transom plates for 125$, but it looks like its just a bracket and a plastic board.

I am sure I can make something similar with metal brackets and marine plywood. Or Metal and rivets.

Has anyone attempted this? Does anyone know of plans on line or pictures I can look at to guide me?

Or is there enough room to mount it next to the engine? Has anyone done this on an old starcraft?

Search the forum...tashasdaddy has posted several pix of brackets that he made.

Yeah! I made one from several lengths of 3 inch by 1/4 inch aluminum angle that I salvaged and a couple of 1 X 3/8 stainless flats. Bolted the whole smash together with 5/16 stainless. Gives me a 14 inch drop from fully up to deployed. COST? Nada-- as I said, I salvaged the materials, including a nice delrin plastic cutting board as the mounting plate.

Mine carries anything between 8-15 HP depending upon the hull to which I have it bolted

Send me your email address in a private message and I will reply with a couple of photos.

How about some photos for the rest of us?

Sounds like you have something there.
