My boat came with one installed, a cable attached from the plug in the to the boat drain plug to aid in pulling it out the drain hole. If you run the engine and warm up the oil they work great, if the oil is cold it takes a while to drain. It is much better than anything else I have seen.

I don't want to hijack, but do you have to add extra oil becuase it fills up the hose?

It will be sometime this weekend before I can but yes I can get a picture of how they did that. I can tell you that the plug in the hose has a hole drilled in the square part and the boat drain plug has a part sticking out that has a hole in it. There is a cable thru the hole on each plug looped and connected with the connectors used in fishing tackle, there is a barrel swivel in the middle and the two cables are looped thru each end of the swivel and connected in the same manner. If you have made fishing leaders you have what it takes to do this. I will get a picture and post over the weekend, gotta get the tow vehicle running first, 99% sure in tank fuel pump dead, no fuel pressure and everything else checks ok.

In a word no. When you drain the oil and push the hose back in the boat it has air trapped in it and it also curls up above the pan drain plug, do not know if it is designed that way but it does.

Ok I won't worry about it, if time allows I may still do it for others.

Hi Guys:

So sorry to disagree with the senior membership, but I had one on my 165 and took it off as it took such a long time to drain and I didn't like it cluttering up the bilge. I use one of those vacuum pump type oil changers via the dipstick tube. Warm the engine, 20 pumps, go have coffee, come back and the job's done.

That's not a disagreement, it's an opinion :):)

Is it possible to install one with normal access--almost none--to the bottom of the block? Just curious, i am happy with the pump out on my VP. It pumps out the threaded head of dipstick tube which goes to the oil pan drain, not down into the block.

Our Glastron had the Mercury hose like Nlain. Not only did it make draining oil easier it kept the garboard plug from getting lost! The one time (yes, just one time) that I launched with putting plug in, it was hanging right there on the attached cable when I jumped in water to screw it in.

It was extremely slow especially if oil wasn't warmed up real good. But, I normally would start it draining and do something else for an hour or so. Never really know exactly how long it took.
