Has anyone heard of this!!??

So, a friend of ours was backing his boat down a launch ramp in San Diego with his girlfriend in the passenger seat of the truck. There was a dock security guy (?) there and he began yelling at them for her to get out of the truck, that it is illegal to have a passenger in any vehical during the launching process. I'm confused cause I do this all the time! I even have people in the boat while backing down ramp. Anyone heard of this or should we go to the dock this weekend and have a party with the gaurd?

I guess the fear is, that you may lose control and have the vehicle roll in the water, and during all this your passenger may not be able to escape.

I can't think of anything else.

I would doubt that it's illegal, but it's best to have everyone but the driver out of the tow vehical when backing down the ramp (especially if there are kids with you). I have everyone get out and wait by the dock, less people in harms way (and in the way).

Not a private dock. It was a five lane public dock at the bay and the boat operator was in the boat to pull off trailer. I'm thinking she must of had the bikini on!

There are "rules" for nearly every ramp whether public or private. Rules are not "laws" so while you may get chewed out and heaven forbid, blacklisted, by the attendant, I doubt they could arrest for that rules infraction.

Did this happen to be Shelter Island launch ramp? If so, some of those guys are like Barney Fifes down there. I love Shelter Island, but hate that launch ramp. Its too small and i have had too many close calls there. I just took my new Sea Pro 206 out there last saturday for the first time and it was horrible. I won't launch there anymore. Mission Bay, Dana Landing or Coronado for me is better.

Its too small and i have had too many close calls there. I just took my new Sea Pro 206 out there last saturday for the first time and it was horrible. I won't launch there anymore. Mission Bay, Dana Landing or Coronado for me is better.

I have always enjoyed dana Point, too.

Yes it was Shelter Island. I too prefer Dana Landing or the south dock at Sea World. Thanks

sometimes you have to watch out for those security guards. They sometimes get a little too in to their job. I went to a meet that the local Dodge Neon club was throwing (dont laugh, these guys could party) and we all met in the back of a Mall parking lot. Imagine 50-60 Dodge Neons parked with a crowd of people standing around. We are obviously NOT a group of thugs (remember folks, we are talking Dodge Neons) after about 20 minutes 2 security Jeeps come flying in and 6 security guards jumped out and started yelling and "puffing up". It took a few minutes to explain we were just here to meet up, go in and eat and then leave.

Why? Regardless of it being a private dock, public dock or otherwise, there is no such law that governs having passengers inside of a tow vehicle while backing down a ramp. The security guard who told him that is a)misinformed, b)lying or c)both of the above
