Has anyone reattached a Catalina 22 swing keel or permanently mounted it?

I am considering both options as I have the boat ('77) with the keel currently not attached (pivots rusted off). Lately I have been considering just reattaching it as a shoal keel and permanently mounting it on the bottom horizontally and not swing-able. As I believe it would be easier as my crank has also seized and would like to get it going for minimal investment. I believe the 22's came that way as an option. (I know the 25's did as I just looked at one this week) Any comments for or against? thx.

I had a older MacVenture 25 and I found a junk swing keel from a Venture 22. I stripped it down to metal, coated it in POR15, refiberglasses and faired it out. Hardest part was drilling a new bolt in it since the other bolt was in a different place. Took a while, but drilled it through, put a much larger pivot bolt in place. Good to go. Moving it around was an issue because it was rather heavy but i built it on a wooden dollie and used two carjacks and two helpers + the cable to raise it back in place. Hope that helped. Let me know if you have any questions, non model specific.
