I have a 2005 Volvo DP-SM drive and I am getting ready to replace the Gimbal Bearing. The new bearing is sealed so it does not require the greasable zerk fitting on the outdrive. Has anyone eliminated it and put in a threaded plug after changing to the new style bearings? I do not want someone trying to grease the bearing in the future and eliminate any possibility of water intrusion.

I had come across that thread which got me thinking about it. I was wondering had anyone else done this, since I couldn't find anywhere else it is talked about so I assume no one else is really doing this when they change the bearings out to the sealed type.

Leave it.
The tube should be full of grease and I doubt water will go past it.
You'll probably replace the "sealed" bearing in the future.
(my opinion)I don't like them as they get a bit of water and then magically the sealing properties disappear??
My motorcycles front wheel.Sealed bearings. One went bad, took it apart NO grease.
