Over the past year or so, many of you have offered advice in attempts to solve a varity of problems I have had with my Mercruiser. Well, over the past week or so, I have discovered the root cause of most, and they were the result of either a brain dead mech or a shade tree mech.

I was having problems with ing, burning exhaust boots, fouling plugs etc.

I had the opportunity to pull the boat, remove the hatch covers and started to dig in.

The canon plug was twisted and shorted. The exhaust well only had half of the water it needed. Who ever installed them used a solid gasket on the foward inlet effectively blocking it off. I do not know how I did not burn it up. The dip stick tube was not secured in place (oil in the bilge) and I was burning points, and coils like crazy. someone wired the ing directly to the alt output.

Now everythings is as it should be and she runs great. Manifolds are cool, plugs not fouling and no more burnt points, and no oil in the bilge.
