Finishing my winter project.

I have glassed in 3/4 marine plywood flooring and mounting pedastals for my seats. Wow, one sentence to cover 2 months work! My question is on my fishing platform on the front of the boat. I have built and completely glassed in an area for holding two marine batterys under the deck. I want to have a hinged cover to access this area. My concern's are several as I plan ahead. My original idea has given me some doubts.

1. Anyone know of any place on the web showing designs?

2. I will carpet the entire deck and flooring in 18 oz carpet. I have been told to wrap the carpet around the lid. Which means I have to allow for the thickness of the carpet on the sides of the lid and supports underneath. My concern is the compression of the carpet with time. Eventually the lid will not be flush with the deck. I am thinking of some sort of aluminum angle pieces ( "T" shaped)to go around the edge of the lid for support and hold down the carpet. This would also help stop water spray from leaking in. Any ideas where or if someone makes something like this?

3. I purchased a couple of stainless steel hinges a while back to use, but now looking at them I want to eliminate if possible any hinge showing above the deck. Is there any specialty hinges made for marine use on decks?

Thanks!

PS, If you are going to do ANY serious fiberglass/epoxy work, invest in an OSHA compliant respirator. I spent about $100 for a good one and it was worth every penny. I can work for hours and NO fume problems

Suggest you take a tour around and check how it's done on different brands.

The manufacturers have solved these things and you might as well copy one instead of earning your own experiences.
