I've been reading and doing some research on the following fish finder.
Humminbird 525 with the following:
2 Transducers, 2 Quick Disconnect Mount and 2 PC10 Power Cables. I believe this is all I would need in order to have 1 fish finder to use between both boats. If I'm missing something please advise.

It looks like my total cost will run me about $250 which puts me in the $150 - $300 range that I was looking for.

If anyone has any advice, recommenations or suggest I stay away from this model please feel free to comment.

Two things I have read are the display fogging up and the power cord plug seems to loose and power is lost. Not sure if the Quick Disconnect Mount will help eliminate this issue or not. Anyone else have or not have these problems?

I've seen the Humminbird 525 and it looks like a nice entry level sonar, nothing too fancy but will show depth, fish and has an easy to read screen.

I wouldn't get the dual mount kit though. You can find those sonar's for about $125 each,,, $250 for 2 complete setups.

(OH BTW, you should have continued on with your original thread instead of starting a new one, easier to follow along.)

No experience with that particular unit but I've been running two humminbirds (with the same QD mount) for 13+ years. Never had a power issue but I do cover the mount to protect it from moisture when not in use. One of my units did fog (after 8 years) but that was quickly fixed (20 min) by pulling the back off , wiping it down and lubing the rubber seal. I think the ability to take the unit in out of the weather when not in use helps. Also FWIW, it's not hard to find used Humminbird head units (no transducer) on Ebay. Since they are all pretty much interchangeable, it's cheap plug and play insurance. I picked up a used $15 "back-up" somewhere along the line. Never needed it though.

I'm with Fisherdan on this one. If you're willing to spend the extra $150 or so on the 2nd transducer, mount, and power cable; why not just go buy 2 units. You could do one of two things with them:

1. Use both units in the boats, if one fails you could just use one between 2 boats.

2. Buy both units, take the mounting and wiring hardware you need then keep one unit and sell the other on ebay. You could easily make back a bit of money on it and that $150 mount, transducer, and power wire could become $75.
