Removed power head and then removed 2 nuts holding shift rod. Removed 4 bolts so I could drop lower unit to install new impeller. I have twisted, shook, pried, and everything else I could think of to pull lower unit away but the water hose connection just won't let go. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Obviously has never been removed. John

Make sure the shift rod comes out, by turning the shift handle, otherwise you risk breaking it. Spray the area where the water tube goes into the impeller housing, with carb or brake cleaner. Then wiggle the lower unit, while gently pushing down on the cavy plate.

If your shift rod comes loose from your shift handle assembly, after taking the nuts off, then it will stay in nuetral. It's just a good idea to make sure that the sift rod is out, so if things come loose, the shift rod connector doesn't risk getting broken.
It's nothing uncommon for the water tube to be hard to separate.

O.K. Yes I took off the whole assembly including the shift handle, so the shift rod is completely loose of everything.I guess I will just keep shaking and pulling down. I did spray water tube connection with WD 40. Thankyou for all the help.. John
