My 1976 Johnson 85v4 is manual tilt and i will really need either a used factory PT&T or a power trim& tilt jack plate like a panther model 135 . some of the lakes i go to are shallow It’s $1620 for a new panther model 135 jack plate up here in Canada . I thought About just rigging a cheap atv winch to the lower unit so i can left it when i get in shallow waters or launching . kind of thinking now i want it done right , my first step is to check the compression in each cylinder first then go from there .

This is the the 85 pt&t i’m looking at

As per usual the seller just does not know what fits what.----That unit was NEVER offered on a 200 HP and only fits the 2 cylinder models.----Your location in Canada?

The original factory t/t units for that vintage of OMC V4 are pretty hard to come by. While it was an available option, most V4 motors in those years shipped without it.

I opted for the CMC trim unit for my '76 85hp. It worked great. I was lucky in the early days of eBay and scored mine for like $200.

I believe some have managed to fit the newer ('79+ ?) trim/tilt units on older motors. But, it's quite a feat of engineering. Lots of parts have to be changed to make this happen.
