A buddy of mine just bought a Sylvan similiar to mine with the exact same engine (4.3 LX Gen +) I think the year is actually newer than mine since his is a 1998. We were comparing notes as to how he winterized it when he told me this. He said he removed the 3/8ths square head bolt next to the thermostat housing on the starboard side, removed the (2) blue pitcocks on the exhaust manifolds, and then the (2) plugs in the side of the block, and just let it drain. He also said he put all the plugs back in then through that hole on the starboard side of the thermostat he pumped in (2 gallons) of the "pink" rv/marine antifreeze unitl it started to come out. Thats when he put the thread 3/8ths cap back in. Last week he said he drained everyhting by pulling all the plugs, then replacing them, and then hooking it to the muffs. Now here is where it gets interesting... he went to the marina to get oil, filter, plugs, wires, cap, etc... and they asked him how he winterized it? He told them what he told me and they said "you better pressure test motor" because you may have a cracked block. So my question is how do you know except for the obvious... start the motor and look for leaks, do a compression test, or what to look for? Is this there way of getting "extra" work from him since he is a novice... or could he have done something wrong. I did hear it runlast weekend and it sounds exactly the same. The oil that came out was black and I didn't see anything to cause alarm... but who am I to speak... I let the marina do mine so its on them if they f*cked up!

Ayuh,... If he poked out the holes behind those drain plugs, he's probably Fine...
