I saw a neat older bowrider in the CL yesterday. Guy was asking 600, he will take 400 or it. ALl the ad said was that it ran good, was taken care of, and had lots of life left.. I know that means i will still have to do lot's to it probably, but.. Here are a couple of pics.. Kind of neat looking i think.. Can anyone identify it with these crappy pics?

worth the asking price. The owner needs to be banned from paint stores :)

Engine looks like an E-rude big twin from the 60's. Post the model/serial number and we can tell you for sure.

I guess im a bit different, but i love the red and yellow..I think it could be made to look pretty sharp. Im going there saturday to inspect it with 400 bucks in hand. I asked if the trailer tows, and they said it tow's nicely. I will do all the regular stuff.. Pull on the transom, and bring my compression tester..Check leaf springs and tires. They think the boat is from the 70's It's a Sea Star. My biggest concern of course will be the outboard. I have no idea of the valu to place on something this old, but if it runs, tows, floats, and has good compression..Don't think i can lose. Unfortunately i am fairly impulsive and need to go in with a clear mind.. No floors, or transom work for me..How did those big twins run?

the motor if it runs is worth 3-400 more if it doesn't and you part it out.

Re: Have a chance to buy.. What do you think?

so, is it yours? We had a similar hull when I was a kid, except with a closed bow. It'd rattle your teeth loose with a bit of chop. Much rougher ride than a comparable V hull. Ours came with a 40 hp big twin OB, but we upgraded to a 60 hp after a few years... Even the 40 could pull us skiing etc as kids.

So, the price is right, but I myself wouldn't be in a hurry to buy a trihull. In addition to the rough ride, it would cavitate easily when turning. For it's size, it was a very stable boat to swim or fish from...

that's my $.02

Re: Have a chance to buy.. What do you think?

Went to look this boat over this weekend. The transom is solid as a rock..Floors are all hard also. Steering is smooth, and cables are good. Looking up the numbers, the outboard is like a 61 Lark 3 40 horsepower. It needs a starter cylenoid. (spelling?) talked him down to 300 bucks for it. Only thing im concerned with is the leaf springs on the trailer are a bit flattened out with the weight, but im waaaay over paranoid about towing things. He claims it runs excellent though. Says it pushes the boat around 25 mph, which sounds reasonable. Just wondering if i really want a fiberglass trihull. If i did, this one seems like a solid buy. I don't have any intention of doing anything but fishing from it if i get it..What do you all think.. Go for it? How do i tell if it's electric shift BTW..It has 2 throttle controls up front.. One for forward, one for reve3rse..Pushing the shifter manually, it shifted from forward, to neutral, and reverse easily..

If the springs concern you, add a leaf.

I love my trihull, is a bumpy ride I have to admit. For 300, I would take it if it were in my area.

Seeing as it is a '61, it isn't. Also, since it has the two levers, it isn't. Many of the electric shift had one lever, and the shift was controlled electronically, and after a while, the goofy switches implied in the design stop working. Those manual shift control boxes are about as simple as it gets.

Are you going to get it? Unless it needs a bunch of work (which it doesn't sound like it does), you can't go wrong for $300.

I would jump all over that deal. If the motor only gives you a years service it alone is still worth it.

Re: Have a chance to buy.. What do you think?

Ok.. You all have talked me into it.. (twist twist) The bottom reddish paint is butt ugly though. That 40 has a rope start that i probably can't get a good compression reading on, but until i locate the cylanoid (spelling?) online, rope start it will be. Any idea of what a moderate reading on a mid line compression tester would be on a 61 40 hp rude pulling a rope?,, Heh.. Guess it doesn't matter.. Ill pick it up sunday afternoon for 3 bills. Plus whatever it costs me to tow it the remainder home if the springs bust on the trailer. That has happened to me twice..even after carefull inspection.

For $3-400.00 you cannot go wrong, especially with good transom and floor.

The starter solenoid is a no brainer. Easy to find and cheap, right here on iboats.

The compression readings should be close to equal on both cylinders or within 5-10% of each other. Be careful starting that old jewel with the rope. They can kick back on you and mess up your whole day. Ouch! Been there.

Trailer. If the trailer is sound, rebuilding it is easy and cheap. Springs are cheap or they can be re-arched.

Put a new water pump in her and a carb rebuild and you're ready.

OK, you asked twice and nobody answered...

It is solenoid.

The 100 you saved on the purchase should cover the new solenoid AND new springs.
