Okay, I got this basket case cheap, 470 190hp merc and outdrive. Was trying to figure out the throttle/shift lever but I can not understand how it works, and, or, why it does not work. I think it is buggered or the guy that had it before me messed it up.

If you all could take a look at it for me and give me some input, i would so much be appreciative.

Top cable that moves is connected to the outdrive, other cable is the throttle.

Thanks so much.

I am truely sorry about your luck my friend. That is a notoriously crappy system. You can try going up to the adults only section and downloading the manual for your drive.

Ayuh,... Unless you can find the problem with That 1,... You need another controller...

The way it works, briefly:
With the lever in neutral you push the lever forward as you watch the cables, only one cable will move at first. That's the one that shifts the drive.
as you continue moving the lever forward then the 2nd cable starts to move. that is the throttle.
The shift cable will push in when moved one way and pull out when moved the other.
The throttle cable only moves one way from neutral. If it is a push throttle. that cable goes in whether you move the handle forward or backward. A pull throttle pulls out either way the handle goes.
If yours is not working, and you can't figure out why, it's junk. You cannot get replacement parts for those.
Also, there is a throttle only position on those. Push a button, or pull out on the handle and the shift cable doesn't move at all, only the throttle.
I suggest you replace that unit. They are kinda' expencive though, but come with detailed installation instructions.

You are going to find that there really is no such thing as a cheap boat.

After looking at your video I can tell you that your shift is working, but not your throttle. The cam that activates the throttle,or the gear that activates the cam, after the gear shift is done isn't engaging. You need a new control.

I agree....no throttle at all. Something is gone inside the control.
Probably best just to get a new one.You could spend hours with that one taking it apart and figuring out what is broken.

Thanks, i know how they work in principle and I have looked for things online to get a "picture" of what my throttle lever is supposed to look like, working.

Being that this is probably not the original system that came with the boat, I doubt I would know what literiture to look for.

It looks like in the picture the throttle "cable" is hooked up wrong. Even if the metal the throttle cable is attached to "could" swing, how? I dont think that throttle cable piviots!? If it does not, then something is definitly amiss. If thats all it is, maybe I am home free.

Does any one have a link as to what the back of one looks like?

I am off on another search myself, thanks.

P.S. I know boats are not cheap, i have had 4 of them, but, never a throttle lever problem.

Time i have, its snowing here.

Fixable, thats a good question.

My question was, is/are the throttle cable cam (if thats what it is called, i cant find an exploded diagram) supposed to be in that position at any time?
