Re: Have I Lost My Mind?????

As a marine restoration addict I also admit a bit of insanity. What I see from the photos is a boat that restored would be valued at maybe $10k and needs about $20k of work. I myself see more value in the trailer allong with parting out the drives than I see as a running restored boat. It is only worth it if you really love and intend to keep this boat. Otherwise it would be money better spent to part out and buy somthing newer that will hold its value longer. I have restored many boats, but I think this looks too far gone and not worth the risk.
I really like the trailer and think It coud bring $4500 along with the drives at $800 each. Other parts could also be sold for additional$ to go tword somthing newer.

WOW!!! That money alone would be the little cash that I'll need to change ownership. I think parting out the motors, gauges and other stuff on could get me a few dollars more also. The motors should be worth something right???? Thanks for the heads up. I appreciate all the feed back. Again, this is a great forum.

I am not familure with california law however would you need to file paperwork on a boat you wish to scrap for salvage? will the storage lean be suficient for disposal of hull after parting out? toy could make arrangments with your friend to share procedes of parts sale in leu of rent.
basicly you are doing him a favor with the disposal of the craft.

your motors are only worth something if they work. if they dont work.....you wont know about the manifolds or the risers. and that traditionally is where the money is for re sale on marine.

the motors and drives will be at minimum 7 a side....plus a transom job. that is 15k total and you haven't gone to look at the electronics, freshwater system, or controls. battery's, ect ect ect.

think a few times before you jump in to this....its a big money pit.

but as you know......we are here for you if you wish

Drives look a lot like my danas. There are many parts available for them. Dont know if they ever used a ford engine to power them though. Yes there is a but load of money that needs to be spent on them. The intakes are 100 to 150 each if not cracked. I have never seen a cast iron small block ford go for less or I own it. Late model lower ends can be installed easy if they are not good as is. I would say 8000 would put her on the water safely if you shop for deals and dont go overboard on parts. Wish you luck whatever you decide. There is also the option of donor hulls for late model drive trains. Rotten hulls can be found at a deal sometimes. Just food for thought.

run with the OMC drives. besides all the other issues mentioned, the radar unit seams a bit low (supposed to be at least a foot above your head). maybe the prior owner fried his/her grey matter.

Oops - thanks for the help as always. I think might just be a parts boat. I can list things out on Ebay and sell as is. Since the paperwork is fairly cheap I should make some money back. Thanks again!

Scott - The radar array is just laying on the external tanks. I'm sure the PO took anything that worth of value to sell on CL or Ebay. I'm sure I'd get at least $1.00 for the array . Thanks for the input.
