For some strange reason I really want to buy this money pit.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1984-Sea-Ray-Express-Cruiser_W0QQitemZ270383835430QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPower_Motorboats?hash=item3ef421e926&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=65%3A1|39%3A1|240%3A1318

I have a great plan for it.

So should I just throw away, sell, or recycle my computers before I get out of hand. Or am I still "normal"?

I've been on this forum for quite a few moons now and i swear to you, i know nothing about boats.:D
I have been on a few sail boats recently, i am at the moment totally enamored with them, however i'm no sailor, i know my limitations. :(

that is a complete nightmare. sunk saltwater. complete rewiring, get the mold out, all mechanicals seized. they should pay you to haul it off.

I'm not one to avoid a challenge but there are simply way too many better candidates for a restoration project than this one. I'd pass on it without hesitation. It probably wont take an hour to find a better project.

She was a beautiful boat back in her day...too bad that day is long past. I wonder how long she was underwater.

If you do restore her against the advice of all the folks on this forum I have one question- are you going to live on board? If so I would say go for it as long as you don't need to move in right away.:D

Re: Have I totally lost it? Do I need to be carted off?

Hmm... looks like the sort of thing I'd try to take on.

I'd never complete the fixing of course, I'd probably pull off some parts and get some of my money back, then scrap the rest.

If you can get this for $300-$500 you can probably get that money back by selling off the few uncorroded parts... maybe some bits of the engines, some of the chrome or other hardware, maybe the shafts and props (those would be worth it by themselves if they're in good shape). If you can haul the boat away yourself you'll be able to get your money back out. If you have to pay someone to haul it or ship it you're gonna lose.

The fiberglass is probably ok, but nothing else will really be useable. You'd need to re-wire the whole thing (you could clean and re-install the old wire and connections, but why bother if you're going to all that trouble?). The engines would be corroded in important places... they'd need a full remanufacture job on each one. Same with the transmissions most likely, and the controls.

The wood may or may not be good still, if it was encapsulated it'll be dry, but there will be plenty of pieces not dry that will have to come out. All the foam will have to be pulled, seats and under decks. Same with most of the fabric, vinyl, etc to avoid mold and such.

If you're in love with the boat and can haul it yourself, and you won't miss the few hundred dollars while you try to work on it for a couple years, go for it.

Otherwise, pick something else, because this won't be on the water for a long time, even with a lot of money and care, and it won't be worth the repair cost even then.

This guy is selling the boat to try and get out of paying someone to junk it.

Does your big plan include using this boat as target practice for your own personal Navy? I'm game.....hey if people can have militias in Montana why can't we have navies in Florida? LMAO

Re: Have I totally lost it? Do I need to be carted off?

Only 7 hours to go..... lol I just showed the wife. She rolled her eyes said she would not expect me to want to buy anything less. Then walked away mumbling under her breath. lol I have a bad habbit of buy "junk" in the weee hours of the morning. I have a habbit (bad?) of seeing the diamond in the ruff in everything. Maybe why that is why I picked the wif.... Oh wait never mind off topic.... I was not expecting it to go back in the water for quite a while and knew I would be sinking tens of thousands of dollars into it many tens at that. After it was said and done I would probablly have spent enough to buy a used one only a few years old. We are looking for a 32-40' project boat to use on a long trip to maybe make the great loop on in many years to come. But this one really isnt they type or style I was really wanting so I was only half kidding about wanting to buy it.

So to sum it all up.
I have been shown the error of my ways on this one.

Can't promise anything on the next tho. lol
