Maybe starter spray to verify that you do have correct amount of fuel?

NEVER use ether, bad things happen.

OP - if you have fuel, compression and spark it runs so double check everything.

do you have spark on ALL cylinders?
do you have the distributor 180* off?
Is the gas fresh? will it burn?
